Rare Antique French Stoneware Strainer

$125.00

Rare antique French stoneware handled strainer/colander. It features a brown chocolate color with a glazing over the whole strainer & handmade holes that are slightly different with each one. The pottery is heavy. I'm thinking the handle was for either hanging the strainer above the sink or a bowl, for easy carrying, or for holding during harvesting. Great size for harvesting/washing berries or even making a small batch of fresh cheese (hang the handle from a hook above a bowl for draining the whey). I have only found 2 other stoneware strainers online that were almost identical to this one (same color, but straight sides). They both had a handle on top instead of on the sides & they were both stated as rare, but were priced way higher!
